“You Can Help the Yellowstone Buffalo” – Education Event
Buffalo Allies of Bozeman will hold an educational event on the basics of bison policy in Yellowstone and how to help.

(Bozeman, MT – December 3, 2008) Last season, a record number of buffalo in the Yellowstone area were shipped to slaughter under the Interagency Bison Management Plan. In the midst of that slaughter, local residents formed Buffalo Allies of Bozeman to prevent further government slaughter of wild buffalo. On Saturday, December 6, Buffalo Allies of Bozeman is holding a public event to inform Gallatin Valley residents of the basics of the buffalo situation and to promote ways to take action for these majestic animals.

WHO: Buffalo Allies of Bozeman

WHAT: Educational Event in two parts. Part 1 is a basic primer on what's happening in the Yellowstone area with the buffalo populations. Why are they being slaughtered and hazed, who is behind it, why, and what's being done about it? It will feature a short movie and provide information for those who want to be educated on the situation.

Part 2 is for people who want to do something about the situation. Buffalo Allies of Bozeman plans sometime early next year to organize volunteers to join Buffalo Field Campaign in the field as they work to protect these buffalo. The talk is a brief introduction on what it's like to volunteer with Buffalo Field Campaign, how local residents can give a little or a lot of their time, and what it takes to get involved.

This is in preparation for a car pool for Bozemanites down to Buffalo Field Campaign to undergo the necessary training to empower us to help Yellowstone's buffalo. We are still nailing down a date, but we expect to go down in January.

WHERE: Bozeman Public Library
Large Conference Room
626 E. Main St., Bozeman, MT

WHEN: 12 Noon, Saturday, December 6, 2008

WHY: Though the issues regarding the Yellowstone bison, notably their management inside and outside of the park, is widely reported in the media, we meet a lot of people who have never heard of or don’t know the basic facts of the issue. Likewise, we meet a lot of people who know about the issue but do not know how to do more. This event aims to both inform those unfamiliar with the issue, as well as to promote one way of taking action for the wild herds of Yellowstone.
